In the healthy conscious world of salads, the macaroni salad along with the potato and chicken salad could be seen as the bad boys. You know its not good for you but who really cares when it makes you feel so good? We have to pay close attention to what we put in our bodies since it plays a major role in our outer appearance. If you would like to keep your loving figure you will have to replace your macaroni salad addiction with a few similar substitutes. This is actually easier than it sounds. Lets look at a a few alternatives to counter the unhealthy aspects of a macaroni salad. Both of these have 183 less calories yet they will easily remind you of the popular macaroni salad.

The Tuna and White beans Salad is a protein replacement. It is basically free of carbohydrates. When compared to the macaroni salad it looks as if the two would actually go well in combination. Its ingredients are as follows:

  • 1 ½ Cups Cucumber
  • 1 servings Onions
  • ¼ teaspoons Pepper
  • 1 servings Cannelloni White Kidney Beans
  • 2 servings Tuna Chunk Light
  • 1 servings Diced Pimientos
  • 1 ½ tablespoons Lemon Juice
  • 1 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • ½ teaspoons table salt

Both the tuna and the beans makes this salad a protein powerhouse.

Finally the most similar replacement yet nutritionally healthier is the Garden -style Macaroni Salad. When one think about a salad, its hard not to picture a combination of food with the major color being green. The tradition Macaroni salad has very few if no hints of grass or nature. Therefore a good way to start optimizing the salad would be to bring back the green.  The Garden -style Macaroni Salad consists out of the following ingredients:

  • 1 c Hellman’s Light Mayo Dressing with olive oil
  • 3 tsp classic yellow mustard
  • 1/2 medium green bell diced pepper
  • 1/2 c diced cucumber
  • 1/2 small Vidalia onion, diced
  • 2 Tb red wine vinegar
  • 12 oz multi grain elbow macaroni
  • 1/2 medium red bell diced pepper
